Opening day, January 15, 1913, 295 guests arrived at the red carpeted door in shining Pierce Arrows, Stanley Steamers, and elegant horse-drawn carriages. During the first week alone, 25,000 visitors toured the new hotel which rivaled Europe’s finest.
